Saints search starts after Pellegrino sacking

12th March 2018, 21:16 by Alex Jack

Southampton have revealed they have parted company with Mauricio Pellegrino and the search begins for a new manager.

Saints suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United over the weekend and that result at St James' Park was the final nail in the coffin.

Southampton confirmed Pellegrino's departure on Monday night and they are now on the lookout for a new boss, with the south-coast outfit just one point above the relegation zone.

A statement from the club read: "Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has parted company with First Team Manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

"Assistant Manager Carlos Compagnucci and Assistant First Team Coach Xavier Tamarit have also parted company with the club.

"We would like to place on record our thanks to Mauricio, Carlos and Xavier for their efforts during their time with Southampton, and wish them well for the future.

"The club will look to appoint a new management team as soon as possible, with the search for a replacement already underway."
