Boufal set to depart Saints

16th July 2019, 12:44 by Dan McCarthy

Southampton winger Sofiane Boufal is reportedly close to sealing a 10million euros move to Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

The Morocco international joined in 2016 for a fee of £16million but endured a frustrating time with the club, playing 59 times in all competitions over two years, only scoring four times.

He spent last season on loan with Celta Vigo in La Liga, netting three times in 35 appearances, and the Spanish side were keen to make the move permanent.

However, it appears Nice have swooped in with an offer of their own to take the winger back to France after three years.

The report claims he is keen to move there to work under former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira.

Marseille and Bordeaux are also keen but are only prepared to sign him on loan at this stage, meaning Nice are the frontrunners.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been eager to trim his squad ahead of the new season to allocate funds elsewhere.
