Defender doubt for Saints

26th April 2019, 10:15 by Nick Harris

Ryan Bertrand is a major doubt for Southampton's clash with neighbours Bournemouth after picking up an injury.

Bertrand took a knock to his ankle in the ankle in draw away at Watford in the week and will face a late test, while Southampton will definitely be without Danish centre-half Jannik Vestergaard who has missed the last two games with injury.

"Jannik Vestergaard is not fit that's for sure but I think we have another few problems," boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said.

"Ryan Bertrand has got a hit on his ankle and this is maybe also a question."

Tuesday night's match against Watford also saw Stuart Armstrong and record-breaker Shane Long pick up injuries. Armstrong is likely to miss out but Long could make it.

"Stuart Armstrong has a little bit of a problem with his hamstring and Shane Long is fit I think," Hasenhuttl explained.

"He trained on Thursday but he had a little bit of a problem in the end of the game against Watford.

"It's good that he can play at the weekend.

"Matt Targett is back in team training and that is good for us because he is the substitute for him."
