Ings in line for Southampton bow

10th August 2018, 16:46 by Chris Rivers

Southampton could hand a debut to deadline-day signing Danny Ings and several other summer arrivals when they face Burnley on Sunday.

Striker Ings arrived at St Mary's on a season-long loan from Liverpool just before Thursday's transfer deadline and is available for selection against one of his former clubs.

“Danny is available and we’ll have a look at him in the next couple of days," boss Mark Hughes said.

“Clearly there’s great enthusiasm from him and he wants to be a part of the opening game. He’s fit and well and has trained and had gametime in pre-season. We’ll see how he goes but he’s certainly an option for me."

Ings could join fellow summer signings Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Stuart Armstrong in making their debuts against Burnley as Southampton seek to make a good start to the 2018/19 season after narrowly avoided relegation last term.

Hughes has a fully-fit squad to select from against the Clarets after defender Cedric Soares recovered from illness.
