Newcastle eye Saints outcast Austin

18th July 2019, 18:29 by Bobbie Jackson

Reports claim Newcastle are considering a move for Southampton outcast Charlie Austin this summer.

The 30-year-old has fallen out with boss Ralph Hasenhuttl after being left at home to train with the Under-23s while the senior squad travelled out for a pre-season camp in Austria.

Hasenhuttl is happy for Austin to depart St Mary's and incoming Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is understood to be keen on signing him.

Reports suggest he could be available for £8million and that fee would fit in with the restrictions likely to be placed on Bruce in the transfer market.

The Magpies are desperate for attacking options after losing Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and Joselu this summer.
