Nigerian marksman on Saints' radar

18th April 2019, 13:01 by Simon Barlow

Saints have been watching Spezia striker David Okereke but could face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt if they try to sign him.

Reports in Italy claim Southampton have checked out the 21-year-old Nigerian, who has scored nine Serie B goals and assisted ten others this season.

Newspaper Il Secolo XIX claims Saints sent a scout to watch Okereke in Spezia's 3-2 home win over Ascoli last week and he scored as his team came back from two goals down.

Eintracht Frankfurt were also represented at the match while the report claims Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia are interested in the player, who is valued at 6million euros.

Saints have not had much success in signing players from Italy in the past with Dani Osvaldo, Gaston Ramirez and Manolo Gabbiadini examples of big-money flops.
