Saints look to bolster forward options

20th May 2019, 17:57 by Tom McGarry

Southampton are reportedly one of the clubs keeping tabs on France youth international Florian Aye.

The 22-year-old forward has emerged as a transfer target for a number of clubs after impressing in the French second division with Clermont Foot this season, scoring 18 goals in 38 league appearances.

Southampton are said to be one of the teams interested in the youngster's services, with boss Ralph Hasenhuttl prioritising adding attacking reinforcements to his squad after no Saints players was able to make it into double figures for goals in the Premier League this season.

The south coast club are not the only Premier League team said to be interested, however, as West Ham are also monitoring Aye's situation, while Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also believed to be admirers.

Indeed, Fener's sporting director Damien Comolli reportedly travelled to France to run the rule over Aye at the weekend and it is now being claimed they have tabled a bid.

That could now force Southampton to make their move for the former Auxerre player, who is under contract with Clermont Foot until the summer of 2021.
