Saints to check on Vestergaard for Newcastle clash
Southampton have several injury concerns for Saturday's clash at Newcastle with Jannik Vestergaard amongst those facing fitness checks.
The Saints have won three of their last four matches to leave them on the verge of confirming their top-flight status for another season, getting the better of Wolves last time out.
However, head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has a number of players carrying issues, including Vestergaard, who has been forced to sit out training this week due to a niggle.
The Austrian tactician says Charlie Austin is carrying a slight shoulder injury, while Alex McCarthy and Matt Targett will need to be checked over before the Saints matchday squad is named.
However, there is better news on Yan Valery after he was cleared to play having been absent from training earlier in the week, while Mario Lemina could also feature.
Lemina has yet to play for Southampton in 2019 due to an abdominal injury but is back in training and Hasenhuttl is confident he will return to action before the end of the season.
"I spoke to say I am sure he will play more games this season," said Hasenhuttl.
"I think the chances are big because now he's training with the team and so maybe this injury time comes to an end."
