Signs are good for Targett to continue

30th January 2019, 11:02 by Simon Barlow

Matt Targett should be fit to start at left-back as Southampton prepare to face relegation rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Targett was substituted because of a knee injury during Saints' win over Everton last weekend but is understood to be available for selection again.

Charlie Austin is a doubt with an ankle problem, Kayne Ramsey is recovering from illness and Mario Lemina remains sidelined with abdominal trouble.

The midfielder, who has not played since the Manchester City match last month, has had surgery to resolve his abdominal injury and is now recovering from the procedure.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Ralph Hasenhuttl claimed the 25-year-old had not been training with the team but made no mention of surgery.

"It doesn’t look so good with Mario Lemina," the boss said. "He is still not in the squad training because he has still problems with his stomach and it’s only about shooting.

"Everting else he can do, but if he shoots he has problems, so it doesn’t make any sense if he is not 100 per cent to train with the group."
