Afobe reveals admiration for Rowett

13th June 2018, 18:16 by Simon Barlow

Stoke striker Benik Afobe has revealed his admiration for new boss Gary Rowett and insists he was key to luring him to the club.

The frontman signed for the Potters on Tuesday less than two weeks after he had agreed a permanent move to Wolves following their promotion to the Premier League.

Wolves made a quick profit on the 25-year-old and Afobe will be playing in the Championship once again next term.

Afobe’s arrival at the bet365 Stadium comes less than a month after Rowett agreed to leave Derby for the Potters and the striker insists he is excited to play under the former Burton Albion boss.

"The manager is probably the main reason why I'm signing, to be honest. He's very ambitious; he's got a project going on here and I want to be a big part of it,” Afobe told Stoke-on-Trent Live.

"What he told me made me feel very comfortable – I believe in what he is trying to achieve and I want to help us get back where we belong. The manager clearly believes in me and that's something that every player wants. I'm hoping I can repay him by scoring some goals and helping the team win games."
