Pochettino had to make tough decision – Moura

20th July 2019, 14:04 by Bobbie Jackson

Lucas Moura says he still has lots of respect for Spurs boss Mauricio Pocettino despite being dropped for the Champions League final.

The Brazilian was key to sealing Tottenham's spot in the Champions League final last season after netting a memorable second-half hat-trick to down Ajax in the last four.

But he was restricted to a place on the bench as Spurs lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Madrid showpiece as striker Harry Kane made his return from injury.

Moura was thrown on with 24 minutes left but couldn't do enough in that period to influence the game in their favour.

Despite being overlooked, the 26-year-old insists he bears no grudge against the manager and understands it was a "difficult decision".

Moura said: "I have no problem with it.

"Of course it was difficult because every player wants to play. I am sure it will have been a difficult decision.

"I need to respect the decision of the coach and respect my teammates."
