Pochettino weighing up World Cup stars involvement
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino says he'll make a late decision on which of his World Cup stars will feature in the clash at Newcastle.
Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier and Jan Vertonghen were all involved in the latter stages of this summer's tournament in Russia and only returned to training on Monday.
Pochettino says he's happy with the condition his players have returned in and will wait until late on Friday before deciding who make the trip to the north-east for Saturday's season-opener.
"We need to assess the players tomorrow (Friday) and then we’ll decide," he said.
"It’s difficult to think that all the players are going to play in the starting 11 – some players will be in the starting 11, some on the bench and some will be out, trying to get fitter."
Elsewhere, Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela will both miss the clash on Tyneside as they continue their rehabilitation from their respective knee and muscle issues.
The other absentees include Juan Foyth, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josh Onomah and Harry Winks, with no return date on the latter as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury.
