Wanyama in line for Spurs exit

22nd August 2019, 14:10

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama is reportedly in talks with Club Brugge over a summer switch.

Kenya international Wanyama has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs over the past two seasons and manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to be willing to allow the midfielder to leave before the transfer window closes.

Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and 18-year-old Oliver Skipp are all ahead of the midfielder, who was also linked with a return to former employers Southampton, where he spent three successful years when arriving from Scottish Champions back in 2013.

Wanyama, 28, has yet to feature this season after only being included in one match-day squad, and talks are understood to be ongoing between Tottenham and Club Brugge, who are eager to bring in reinforcements before the September 2 deadline.

Having sold Zimbabwe star Marvelous Nakamba to Aston Villa, Blauw-Zwart, who are top of the Belgian First Division A, are looking for a replacement and they believe Wanyama can fill the void in midfield.

It is thought Brugge will have to spend around £16-20million in order to land the Kenyan, who still has under two years left on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That valuation should be no issue for Brugge, who sold Nakamba and Brazilian forward Wesley to Villa this summer for a combined £33m, leaving the club with plenty in the kitty to spend on reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Spurs winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou appears to be on his way out of the club after he arrived in Turkey on Thursday morning ahead of a medical with Besiktas.

The 24-year-old former France Under-21 international has been starved of first-team football since he arrived in north London in 2016, making just 11 Premier League appearances and he looks set to end his frustrating spell in England.

Nkoudou did come on as a late substitute in the 3-1 victory over Villa on the opening day of the season but that is likely to be his last appearance for Spurs, ending his PL stint.

The fee is understood to be around £4.6m but Tottenham have a 50 percent future sale clause.

Although the move is yet to be confirmed, the Frenchman, who will pen a four-year contract, said his goodbyes to Tottenham supporters on Thursday via social media.

Wanyama and Nkoudou’s expected departures would make it seven first-team players to have permanently left Spurs this summer, following right-back Kieran Trippier, forward Vincent Janssen, striker Fernando Llorente, goalkeeper Michel Vorm and winger Josh Onomah out of the door.
