Hornets pair winning fitness race

22nd January 2019, 13:03 by Craig Smithson

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Craig Cathcart should be fit for Javi Gracia when he selects Watford's XI for the FA Cup tie at Newcastle.

The Hornets boss is preparing his squad for their fourth-round trip to St James' Park this weekend, before a return to Premier League action against third-placed Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday week.

Watford are on a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but they struggled to a goalless draw against Burnley at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Midfielder Doucoure, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the Hornets, was a notable absentee from the squad, while defender, Cathcart was also missing.

Gracia revealed that Doucoure picked up a knock to his knee in training last week and added: "I'm sure in two or three days he will be ready."

Cathcart also suffered a slight knee injury in training, but the Northern Ireland international is also set to be involved against the Magpies on Saturday.
