Hornets to appeal Capoue red card - Gracia

3rd December 2018, 11:17 by Craig Smithson

Watford will appeal against Etienne Capoue's red card in Watford's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Leicester, Javi Gracia has confirmed.

The Hornets' boss failed to celebrate the new contract extension he penned last week at King Power Stadium on Saturday as a penalty from Jamie Vardy and a volley from James Maddison condemned his side to defeat, while his misery was compounded when Capoue was dismissed a minute from time after a two-footed tackle on Kelechi Iheanacho.

Watford have now won just two of their last 11 games in all competitions and have slipped down to mid-table.

And while Gracia accepted his side were well beaten and refused to criticise referee Graham Scott following the penalty decision, he revealed the club will look to overturn Capoue's red card.

"I saw it clear because it was in front of me, but I prefer not to say anything, only what Iheanacho said," he said.

"He said Capoue didn't touch him. That is more important than what I can say. Yes, we will appeal. It doesn't depend on me but we are going to appeal. Someone spoke with him (Iheanacho) and told me what he said.

"If I say my opinion it will sound like an excuse. I prefer to keep my opinion to myself. I prefer to do this. In the last games we have been a bit unlucky with these decisions."
