Watford ready to contest Deeney call

17th April 2019, 22:01 by Tom Hill

Watford are looking to appeal Troy Deeney's red card from Monday's match with Arsenal, according to reports in England.

The fan favourite was handed a red card at Vicarage Road after he was accused of elbowing Lucas Torreira.

Deeney protested his innocence but he was unable to persuade referee Craig Pawson who consulted his linesman.

Watford boss Javi Gracia admitted earlier this week that he has been disappointed with the decision and reports claim they are ready to launch an appeal.

The ban could now be increased from the original three games, with Deeney already set to miss against Huddersfield, Southampton and Wolves.

Any appeal by the club would be heard by an Independent Regulatory Commission and there is a chance they could increase the ban if they decide the claim 'had no prospect of success' and/or 'amounts to an abuse of process'.
