Hammers wait on Gomez move

28th March 2019, 16:05 by Tom Hill

West Ham United are willing to wait to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez this summer, according to reports in the English press.

The Hammers tried to sign the forward in January but they decided to pull the plug after Marko Arnautovic opted to stay put.

Gomez currently has a £43million release clause in his contract but his future is up in the air in Spain.

Celta Vigo are four points from safety in La Liga and West Ham are expecting his asking price to half if they are relegated this season.

The Hammers are willing to double Gomez's wages in order to land his signature and seem happy to splash the cash with Arnautovic set to move on in the coming months.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini is expecting the Austria international to leave this season, alongside Andy Carroll but they appear ready to bide their time over Gomez in order to get him at the right price.
