Noble happy with West Ham’s progression

13th October 2019, 17:13 by Tom Hill

West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble says the team are making giant strides under Manuel Pellegrini’s stewardship.

Noble has enjoyed a short break with the majority of West Ham’s squad away on international duty. The Hammers squad will regroup on Wednesday before they then go to Everton on Saturday after the final round of international fixtures.

And West Ham will want to bounce back after a tough few weeks. Pellegrini’s troops were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Oxford United before they then drew with Bournemouth and lost to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for the east London outfit, with West Ham only losing one of their last seven matches in the league.

Noble has led by example again this season, scoring one goal in six appearances. The veteran is now in his 15th season with the club, and he has experienced every emotion while playing for the Hammers.

He has helped them earn promotion back to the top flight after relegation in his time in the first-team, and the London-born midfielder says his side are onto something exciting under their Chilean coach.

“The whole club is moving in the right direction,” Noble told the West Ham official website. “There’ll still be tough times to come – of course, we’re going to lose some games – but the Club’s moving forward. Manuel came in last year and set his stall out early: how he wants to train, how he wants to play. Even though we lost the first four games last season, we played in a consistent way. Now I really think you can see the benefits of that.

“I was honest at the beginning of the season. I said to the players, the manager and the chairmen that we need to set our sights higher. I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I didn’t believe we could.”

Pellegrini could be without Robert Snodgrass for the fixture with Everton, with the Scotland international forced to withdraw from international duty due to a calf issue.
