Zabaleta pushing for West Ham appearance

28th December 2018, 18:47 by James Mason

West Ham United could have Pablo Zabaleta available for the clash against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

The former Argentina international missed the 2-1 victory at Southampton on Thursday due to illness but the Hammers are optimistic he will have recovered in time to face relegation-threatened Burnley.

Manuel Pellegrini could only name six substitutes for that win at St Mary's and he could be facing a similar situation at the weekend, with the fitness of both Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic being monitored.

West Ham remain without Winston Reid, who is not expected back until late January as he continues his recovery from a knee problem, whilst Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko are both out until April.

There is also no timescale for the returns of Jack Wilshere, Ryan Fredericks, Fabio Balbuena and Manuel Lanzini, but England international Andy Carroll could be handed a start after coming off the bench during the second half of the win over the Saints.
