Dendoncker ready to help Wolves push on

16th April 2019, 10:41 by Tom Hill

Leander Dendoncker believes Wolves need to start improving in defence as they try to finish in the top seven in the Premier League.

The Midlands outfit are still licking their wounds after losing in the FA Cup semi-finals to Watford.

Wolves failed to recover in time before then losing to Southampton, with Nuno Espirito Santo's men losing 3-1 at St Mary's.

Santo's side have now conceded eight goals in their last five matches and Leicester City are now the favourites to finish seventh this season.

Dendoncker, who has made 14 appearances this season, is hoping he can play a part in the club's final few games but he has urged the squad to switch on at the back.

"Just like in the Burnley game, we had to be coming from behind at Southampton – we had to follow and come back from 1-0," he told the Express and Star.

"They got the first goal way too quick and we were behind straight away, so it's difficult. In the first minute, that's where it went wrong.

"It's important to keep them at zero, because it gets very difficult to come from behind every time, and we have to see what we can do.

"In the first-half we had three chances against, and two times it goes in, so we have to do something."
