Selection not a reaction to defeat – Nuno

6th March 2019, 10:51 by Neil Foster

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says he did not react to the Huddersfield defeat when selecting his team to face Cardiff City.

The Molineux outfit have generally been superb since mid-January, winning three and drawing two games before an unexpected 1-0 defeat to Championship-bound Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium.

However, they bounced back with a clinical 2-0 victory over the Bluebirds last time out, with Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez netting the goals in the first 20 minutes to ensure the points stayed in the West Midlands.

Wolves were way below their best when losing to the Terriers and the likes of John Ruddy and Morgan Gibbs-White came into the side for the visit of Neil Warnock’s Cardiff, but Nuno was quick to point out that his selection was not down to the team’s shortcomings in their previous outing.

"That’s not the idea. We don’t have to pass the message that way," he told the Express and Star. "We speak, we have dialogue. We are all aware of what happened at Huddersfield, we didn’t perform well, but it’s nothing to do with that.

"It is our job to prepare the squad well, so we’re always able to choose a strong eleven."
