Spanish stay would suit Wolves defender

1st March 2019, 11:19 by Simon Barlow

Ryan Leak admits he would be happy to extend his season-long loan at Spanish outfit Jumilla into a second campaign.

The 21-year-old central defender is one of several Wolves players currently learning their trade at the Segunda B side but Leak has arguably been the most successful recruit, having made 19 league starts for the club this season.

He admits he "did not know anything about the league or Jumilla" when Wolves told him about the opportunity to join on a season-long loan last summer.

"I went to look on the internet," he admits but after months of Spanish lessons he insists "the language is not a problem because I speak a little Castilian and other team-mates [speak] a little English."

"I would like to continue in Spain," he told Marca.

Among the other Wolves players at the Spanish club are defender Sylvain Deslandes, midfielders Boubacar Hanne and Ming Yang and forward Sherwin Seedorf, the nephew of former Real Madrid player Clarence Seedorf.

Wolves' head of youth loans, Seyi Olofinjana, believes in the benefits of the arrangement, saying: "We have a global vision and we consider Spain one of the best countries for the development of our homegrown players, and the Jumilla option was very interesting for us."
