Bird out for up to eight weeks
Catalans Dragons forward Greg Bird has been ruled out for up to eight weeks after breaking his thumb in a warm-up game.
The 34-year-old picked up the injury in a friendly against Toulouse on Friday and is now in recovery, with Catalans saying they expect him to be on the sidelines for between four and eight weeks.
The good news is the Australia international does not require surgery and he will hope to be back in contention sometime in March.
Bird has been with Catalans since 2017 and has managed six tries in 44 appearances.
The French club, who won the Challenge Cup last year, begin the new Super League campaign away at Castleford Tigers on Friday.
