Cas make good start to pre-season
Castleford Tigers have started their pre-season campaign in fine form after thrashing local rivals Featherstone Rovers 56-0.
Daryl Powell lined up with a side full of youngsters and fringe players, showcasing their squad depth as they were in constant control throughout the contest.
Young wingers Kieran Gill and Lewis Carr both went over the line three times to assert themselves into Powell’s thinking ahead of the new campaign.
Senior man Greg Minikin, playing in centre rather than his usual position of the wing, was instrumental in the setup of several tries, including one for James Clare with a very elegant flick pass.
Castleford are likely to put out a more first-choice team in their next pre-season game which is against Leeds Rhinos on January 20.
Then their first Super League game of the season is against Catalans Dragons on February 1 as they look to win their first ever Super League title, after getting to a final and semi-final in the last two years.
