Gelling commits to Vikings
Anthony Gelling will play for Widnes next year and has no problem plying his trade in the Championship.
The former Wigan star has been linked with a move to French side Catalans Dragons in recent times despite stating he would feature for Widnes.
Having spent one season with New Zealand Warriors, the 28-year-old is set to return to the British game, with Gelling now ready to start his career at the Halton Stadium after sorting out the red tape.
"There were a couple of basic visa things that needed to be sorted but my family will get their visas come early January, so I will train here for a few days and then I will go home and wait for my baby to be born," he said.
The Cook Islands international is now looking forward to getting started and played down suggestions he should be operating at a higher level.
"People were saying to me ‘you shouldn’t be down here in the Championship’ and I replied with ‘what’s your point? I’m too good for Super League!’
"It’s only my first proper day of pre-season, but there is a new coach, players and trainer so it is looking good.
"This could be really special season because we could go from getting kicked in the mouth last year to getting promoted back to Super League. I’m excited, it is going to be a lot of fun."
