Holbrook hails 'brilliant' Saints win
St Helens coach Justin Holbrook praised his side's "brilliant" 24-18 Super League win at Wakefield to maintain their 100% start.
The Saints enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign with a win against rivals and reigning Grand Slam winners Wigan last week, but they were made to fight until the end to see off a spirited Wakefield.
Morgan Knowles and Tommy Makinson crossed for St Helens, while Tom Johnstone's two tries sent Wakefield in all square at the break.
The visitors went 18-12 ahead thanks to tries from Regan Grace and Makinson, before Bill Tupou levelled it at 18-18.
It looked like the game would head into a period of golden-point extra time to settle matters when Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook snatched a last-gasp try to win it.
Afterwards, Holbrook said: "It was a really tough game, everything we expected after their disappointing loss last week and with it being their first home game.
"I'm really happy to win today against good opposition who we knew would be very hard to beat.
"To get the win here is brilliant."
