Holbrook pleased with new additions
St Helens boss Justin Holbrook says he is happy with his new signings ahead of the 2019 Super League season.
Despite last season’s Man of Steel Ben Barba returning Down Under to play in the NRL and Jon Wilkin joining Toronto Wolfpack in the Championship, Holbrook has moved to strengthen his squad in order to try and win the Betfred Super League next season.
He has signed three players from Australia in full-back Lachlan Coote, centre and Fiji captain Kevin Naiqama, and second row Joseph Paulo from North Queensland, Wests Tigers and Cronulla Sharks respectively.
Holbrook has signed up-and-coming prospect Joe Bachelor from York City Knights for 2019 as well, with all four players agreeing three-year-contracts at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
And the Australian coach, who led Saints to the League Leaders Shield last season, says he is very happy with the calibre of players coming in despite the outgoings.
Holbrook said: "I am confident with our squad.
"Although I am disappointed to lose guys like Jon Wilkin and Ben Barba, I think you need new faces if you keep hitting the same stumbling block in competitions."
