Richardson given St Helens lifeline

4th April 2019, 14:26 by Tom Hill

St Helens coach Justin Holbrook has named half-back Danny Richardson in his squad for the game against Catalans Dragons this weekend.

The scrum-half has been left out of Saints' first eight fixtures of the campaign, despite being named in the 2018 Dream Team.

Theo Fages has took his place so far this season but his recent injury now allows Richardson to return to the fold.

To maintain his fitness, Richardson has been playing in the Championship on dual registration with Leigh Centurions and Holbrook expects him to take the opportunity with both hands.

He told the St Helens Reporter: "Danny has been waiting in the wings all year for his chance but his games at Leigh have been very important for us, otherwise he would have been without a match for eight weeks and this is something we didn't want to happen.

"He has been training hard and is ready to slot-in."
