Shenton extends Castleford deal

1st March 2019, 10:00 by Tom Hill

Castleford Tigers have revealed captain Michael Shenton has agreed a new two-year contract extension with the Super League club.

The former England international was set to be a free agent at the end of the season but he has now signed fresh terms to stay at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle until the end of the 2021 campaign.

Shenton graduated from the club's academy system after being snapped up from local side Smawthorne Panthers.

He recently made his 300th appearance for the Tigers and the 32-year-old is just two tries away from his 150th for the club.

When asked about his decision to stay, Shenton told the club's official website: "This is the only club for me now. To see how the club has grown and to be a part of that has been one of the highlights and achievements of my career, watching us transform into a team that’s challenging and with the standards that we’ve set. The people that do come into the club from the outside are now impressed by what we do here.

"I’m pleased to be staying for another couple of years and I’m excited about the potential of this team in that time, but particularly this season. We’ve made a strong start to the year but it’s down to us to continue with that now."
