Tautai quick to praise new boy Sammut

4th December 2018, 11:05 by Tom Hill

Wigan Warriors star Taulima Tautai is confident new half-back Jarrod Sammut will bring the 'X Factor' in 2019.

The former Wakefield Trinity star decided to leave London Broncos last month in a shock decision.

He was then confirmed as a Wigan player on Saturday after signing a two-year contract at the DW Stadium.

Sammut will bring plenty of flexibility to the squad, with the 31-year-old able to play at full-back as well as in the halves.

Tautai has played with Adrian Lam's first signing before and he is expecting big things from the Australian.

He told Wigan Today: "He’s got that X factor about him, for sure. I played with him at Wakefield and I played against him, too, when I was younger.

"I was with Parramatta when he was at Penrith, and before that we played for different catholic schools against each other, so from the age of 16 really.

"He was the same kind of player then that he is now. He’s got that zip, he’s nippy, which makes him very hard for defenders to get a hold of. And if he sees something on, he’s not afraid to go and back himself."
