Tigers hit by injuries

5th December 2018, 14:27 by Nick Harris

Oliver Holmes and Will Maher will both miss the start of Castleford Tigers' season through injury.

Holmes has been carrying a shoulder injury for the second half of the last campaign and he then went on to play for the England Knights at the end of the season.

The second-rower played in 27 games in 2018 for the Tigers but will now miss the pre-season schedule and the opening weeks of the campaign, according to Castleford physio Matty Crowther.

He told the club's website: “Oliver is going to be missing for three to four months but we feel like as a club that this is the right time to do it and get him back for maybe a month into the season, ready for a very strong finish from Oliver.”

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Will Maher reported for pre-season with the rest of the squad but during the first session ruptured his pectoral muscle and has already undergone surgery on the problem but he too will miss the opening weeks.

Crowther continued: "The fortunate part is that he’ll be back within three months, so it will take him the full pre-season.”
