Tomkins makes Catalans pledge

9th November 2018, 00:38 by Michael Holland

Sam Tomkins says he will be happy to play anywhere for Catalans Dragons as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

Tomkins second stint with Wigan ended in Grand Final glory last month, but he joins a side very much on the up after they clinched the Challenge Cup beating Warrington at Wembley.

Tomkins excelled at full-back for the Warriors, but the Dragons have a squad full of quality and he is not sure where he will fit into Steve McNamara's plans.

“I’m guessing that I’ll find out in pre-season,” he said. “There are a few options, with Tony Gigot, Matty Smith and David Mead. There are a few different combinations Steve could go with between the five of us. And I’m including Samisoni Langi in that too, so I’ve not even considered that.”

Tomkins has played half-back for England, but is not too concerned which position he takes as long as he is in the side.

“I’ve played both positions so much that it doesn’t bother me too much any more,” he said. “I used to get stressed about playing halfback; I’ve played there a lot more in recent years, but there’s not a huge difference outside of the defending. Wherever it is, it doesn’t matter to me.”
