Ward praises new Leeds coach
Leeds star Stevie Ward says new Rhinos coach David Furner is a 'smart tactician' ahead of the new Super League campaign.
Furner, who won the Grand Final as a player with Leeds, has taken his first coaching role in the Super League after various positions with NRL teams, most recently as the assistant at South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Ward is confident the 47-year-old Australian will be a success at Leeds.
“It is good to have Dave at the helm,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “He is a very smart tactician and he knows the back-rowers’ job and the work that’s needed, so it’s good.”
Leeds open the new Super League campaign at Warrington next month and Ward will be keen to be involved.
The 25-year-old suffered a number of injury issues last term and managed just 18 appearances but says he is feeling fit ahead of the 2019 season.
He added: “I am feeling good, it was good to do 80 minutes [in the Boxing Day pre-season win over Wakefield] and we got the win which always makes you feel a bit better."
