Wardle desperate to get going
Huddersfield Giants youngster Jake Wardle is adamant his side can make a fast start to the new Super League season.
The Giants will begin their pre-season fixtures on Sunday when they take on Bradford Bulls in Michael Lawrence's testimonial.
Wardle will be hoping to feature before they then take on Wakefield Trinity on January 22.
Huddersfield's opening game of the new season will come on February 1 against Salford Red Devils and boss Simon Woolford has already added five new faces to his squad.
Competition for places is set to be fierce and the 27-year-old admits everyone is ready to get going.
He told the Huddersfield Examiner: "Pre-season has been tough and very intense, with everyone competing for places.
"Last year pre-season didn't work out how we wanted, so it's been a matter of putting that right, and everyone has had a dig, so hopefully we will start the season well.
"These pre-season friendlies are a chance for all the boys to impress Simon Woolford and try and get a spot in the team.
"That's whether you are one of the young lads or one of the more experienced players, it's an equal playing field and it's all about getting ready for Round One.
"Everyone knows places are up for grabs, no-one is guaranteed a place, so everyone has been having a massive rip into training and working really hard."
