Warriors ace heading down under
NRL side Canberra Raiders have snapped up Wigan star George Williams, who has agreed a three-year deal starting in 2020.
Rumours over the future of Williams have been hotting up in recent weeks, with Warriors coach Adriam Lam going as far as suggesting it was starting to have an effect on the player.
“If he is in negotiations with them then it’s got to take an effect on him,” he said days after the 18-16 loss against London Broncos. “I think it probably did last week in the performance, you could see some of that.”
It would now appear that Canberra have won the race for his signature and Williams will link up with ex-Wigan team-mates John Bateman and Ryan Sutton down under.
Williams' deal with Wigan runs until the end of next season, while the club do have the option for 2021 in their favour.
However the Raiders are set to pay a fee to secure his release from the remainder of his contract that will allow him to head to the Australian capital for the start of 2020.
