Widdop staying in Australia
Gareth Widdop says he would still like to play in Super League, despite committing to the NRL and St George Illawarra for next season.
There had been a hope that the England stand-off would be coming to the English game after making his name in the NRL with Melbourne Storm and the Dragons.
The Halifax-born star, who missed the recent Test series win over New Zealand with a shoulder injury, had been linked to Wigan but he has confirmed he is staying Down Under - for now.
"I haven't asked for a release for 2019," he said.
"There's no secret I have aspirations of going over to the UK and playing. It's something I've always wanted to do. I have a good relationship with the club and so when the time is right we'll work together.
"I understand my importance to this team and my position as the captain and leader of this club. I will be here in 2019 and can't wait for the season to start."
