Wigan finalise Burgess deal for 2020

28th July 2019, 19:20 by Tom Hill

Wigan Warriors have pulled off a huge coup after announcing prop George Burgess has joined the club on a three-year contract from 2020.

The England international has decided to leave South Sydney Rabbitohs after ten years Down Under in the NRL.

Burgess will leave twin brother Tom behind as well as elder sibling Sam as he prepares to play in the Betfred Super League.

The 27-year-old becomes the latest big name to join the Warriors, with Jackson Hastings, Mitch Clark, Bevan French and Jake Bibby all committing themselves to the club for 2020.

When asked about the move, Burgess said the club's vision for the next few years was too hard to turn down.

He told the club's official website: "After speaking to Adrian Lam and Kris Radlinski, it's clear to me that there's something special happening at Wigan Warriors in 2020 and beyond. Although it's a huge decision to leave the NRL and say goodbye to Souths, I'm excited as to what the future will hold at Wigan Warriors and the Betfred Super League."
