All Blacks revenge as Aussies crumble

18th August 2019, 13:01 by Neil Foster

New Zealand put 36 unanswered points past Australia to hit back from last weekend’s defeat to the Wallabies.

Questions were asked about the All Blacks' World Cup credentials after the Aussies beat then 47-26 in Perth but the world champions hit back to win 36-0 at Eden Park.

In doing so, they retained the Bledisloe Cup and inflicted yet another defeat on the men in green and gold.

The hosts scored five tries through new wingers George Bridge and Sevu Reece, plus Richie Mo'unga, Aaron Smith and Sonny Bill Williams.

Mo'unga also landed three conversions and a penalty in a thoroughly professional display by New Zealand which will make the rest of the rugby world sit up and take note so close to the Japan showpiece.

After the game, Kiwi skipper Kieran Read said: "There has been a lot said this week and the guys fronted up tonight."

The World Cup begins on September 20 and New Zealand have been grouped with South Africa, Italy, Namibia and Canada.
