Brookes blow rocks Wasps

28th December 2018, 11:42 by Alex Jack

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young says his team have suffered a blow after news Kieran Brookes will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks.

The England prop suffered an ankle injury playing against Bath on Sunday and is not set for an extended spell out on the sidelines.

Young has confirmed the injury was not a fracture but believes the knock is likely to keep Brookes out for a matter of months.

"Brookes hasn’t suffered a fracture but it was a syndesmosis [injury]," said Young. "But it’s a significant ankle injury that will put him out for months rather than weeks.

"They’re usually an eight or 12-week injury so we’re expecting that and it’s a massive blow for us.

"He’s been excellent for us and done really well. It just seems our luck at the minute."

Wasps will begin life without Brookes on Saturday when they face Harlequins in the Gallagher Premiership.
