Care extends Quins stay

28th January 2019, 12:16 by Tom McGarry

Scrum-half Danny Care has become the latest Harlequins player to commit to the club after putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal.

The England international, who was a surprise omission from Eddie Jones' initial training squad for this year's Six Nations, has spent the last 13 years with Quins and made his 250th appearance for the club earlier this season.

Care has won the Premiership title and the European Challenge Cup during his time at the Twickenham Stoop and he admits it was an easy decision to pen an extension, as he feels the club are well placed to challenge for further silverware over the coming seasons.

"I'm delighted and incredibly proud to have signed for two more years with the club that I love," Care was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "I've had 13 amazing years here and I can't wait to see what the next few will hold.

"I really believe that the club is in a great place at the moment and we're all working as hard as we can to get hold of some silverware soon."

Quins head of rugby Paul Gustard was equally delighted to see Care sign fresh terms, as he believes the 32-year-old has to be considered as one of the most talented players in the world game.

"Danny epitomises all that is good about Harlequins and I know everyone at the club joins me in congratulating him on his new contract," Gustard said. "There are very few players in the world - never mind the country - that have his talent allied to his level of consistency in performance."

Care becomes the second Quins player to commit to the club in the space of a few days, following forward Jack Clifford's renewal over the weekend.
