O'Brien reveals London Irish plan

Ireland international Sean O'Brien has revealed he will be joining London Irish after this year's World Cup.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire career to date with Leinster and has won four Champions Cups and two Pro 14 titles during his time with the Irish club.

However, the openside flanker has now confirmed he will move to English side London Irish after this year's World Cup, with the Exiles looking well-placed to make an immediate return to the Premiership for next season.

O'Brien, who won his 54th cap for Ireland during their Six Nations victory over Scotland on Saturday, will be putting his long-term international future in doubt, as the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) only select overseas-based players in extreme circumstances.

That means O'Brien's swansong could come at the World Cup, although he is not concerned about that prospect as he is excited by the project that awaits him at the Madejski Stadium.

"After speaking with Declan (Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney) it was obvious the ambition London Irish have as a club," O'Brien said. "I'm keen to roll up the sleeves and use my experience to help re-establish London Irish as a top club in England.

"It's a club that's been around for a long time and there's an obvious connection to Ireland with some greats of Irish rugby having previously worn the jersey. For now my concentration remains solely with Leinster and Ireland but it's an exciting challenge that awaits."
