Te'o heads to Toulon on short-term contract
England international Ben Te'o has joined French Top 14 club Toulon on a short-term contract.
The 32-year-old centre had himself hoped to secure a place in Eddie Jones' squad for the tournament in Japan, but he was omitted from the final 31-man party, with reports suggesting that a bust-up with team-mate Mike Brown was a contributing factor.
The New Zealand-born back had been tipped for a big-money move to Japan, but he instead opted to join three-time European champions Toulon on a deal which runs until the end of November, although there is already speculation that contract could be extended until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Te'o, who has won 16 caps for England and was also part of the British & Irish Lions squad that toured New Zealand in 2017, had been playing for Worcester Warriors in the Premiership, while he has also previously represented Pro14 giants Leinster.
The move does appear to end any hope Te'o may of had of earning a late call into England's World Cup squad, as Jones had indicated he would still consider calling up the back should any of his squad be forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury.
