Van Graan signs contract extension with Munster

8th April 2019, 14:12 by Tom McGarry

Munster head coach Johann van Graan has signed a two-year contract extension with the Irish province.

The 39-year-old left his role as South Africa's forwards coach to succeed Rassie Erasmus at Munster during the early part of the 2017-18 season and he guided the team to the semi-finals of both the Pro14 and the Champions Cup during his first campaign at the helm.

Munster have also made it through to the semi-finals of the Champions Cup this term, with a showdown to come against Saracens later this month, while they currently sit second in Conference A of this season's PRO14.

Van Graan has certainly had a positive effect since arriving at Munster and he admits it was an easy decision to sign his contract extension, with the new deal set to run until 2022.

"I'm very happy and grateful to be in this position, knowing that I can continue to work with this incredible group of people and play my part in shaping Munster's future," Van Graan said.

"Coming to Munster, I wanted to become part of the community, and every day I get to experience that sense of belonging with my family and settling in from the very beginning.

"This is a special place, a special club to be part of and I look forward to continuing the journey together."
