Wallabies star suffers minor injuries in snatch and run
Wallabies prop Taniela Tupou has revealed how he sustained minor injuries in a robbery near the team hotel in Johannesburg on Saturday.
A spokesperson for the Australian team, who are in South Africa to prepare for next Saturday's opening Rugby Championship clash with the Springboks at Ellis Park, confirmed that Topou had lost his phone in a snatch and run in Sandton and sustained minor injuries to his arm.
The 23-year-old Tonga-born prop initially thought the robbery was a prank pulled off by a teammate but when he realised he didn't know the assailant he reportedly gave chase and tried to grab his phone out of a vehicle the alleged criminal jumped into.
He suffered minor cuts and abrasions and will be monitored by medical staff ahead of next week's game but did train with a bandage on his arm on Sunday.
"I was at dinner with the front rowers, it was just outside our hotel," Tupou said.
"On our way back someone just came from behind and took my phone. I thought it was one of the boys so I looked back and he was wearing a hoodie and ran with my phone. I tried to chase after him and he got in the car and I got some cuts but I'm fine. I lost my phone but I can live with that."
