Bauer ready for first-team fight

11th September 2019, 17:03 by Tom Hill

Celtic’s Moritz Bauer says he has been impressed by the Scottish champions and is confident he can soon become part of the starting XI.

The Austrian has made one appearance for the Bhoys since he joined on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City.

The 27-year-old made his debut in the Old Firm derby on September 1 but the international break has put a halt to any potential momentum he was hoping to build.

Neil Lennon’s side have won their last five matches in all competitions and Bauer faces a fight to force his way into the starting line-up.

Bauer admits he has enjoyed a dream start to life in Scotland, but he believes he can offer something different to Lennon’s team.

He told the club’s official website: “I couldn’t have chosen a better start to be here. We qualified for Europe and won the first derby of the season, so it couldn’t have been a better start for me.

“The trust and the faith the gaffer has shown, and the atmosphere created, made me feel like part of the team, and I think that’s why we won the game.

“I didn’t sign for one game. I hope to be part of the team for the whole season. We have a great squad, and we showed that in the derby. I try to give everything in training and give the gaffer a selection headache. I want to be part of it.”
