Bayo offer rejected as Rapid try new tactic
Rapid Vienna must hope Dunajska Streda will accept a larger sell-on percentage as they can't match Celtic's bid for Vakoun Issouf Bayo.
The Austrian club remain interested in the Ivory Coast forward although they don't seem to be able to match the Celtic bid that was rejected by Dunajska.
"We confirm that we have received a specific offer from Celtic, but it has not met our expectations," said Dunajska Streda sport director Jan van Daele.
Rapid's current transfer record is 2.3million euros and they are unlikely to match Celtic's reported 2million euros bid for a player who has scored 18 goals and assisted seven others in his 23 competitive appearances since the start of the season.
However, they are set to ask the Slovakian club if they would accept a lower down payment than Celtic's offer if they bump up the sell-on arrangement, which could potentially net the selling club more in the long term.
Rapid sporting director Fredy Bickel told Kurier.at: "Bayo is an interesting player. We have watched Bayo closely."
