Celtic boss slams “loose” performance

6th December 2018, 15:08 by Bobbie Jackson

Brendan Rodgers was heavily critical of Celtic’s performance on Wednesday after dropping points at Motherwell.

The Bhoys had the opportunity to return to the top of the Premiership and looked on course to achieve that feat after Ryan Christie netted his sixth goal in nine games.

Leigh Griffiths, who made his first appearance in almost two months, failed to convert a first half penalty, while Filip Benkovic had a effort ruled out.

Motherwell’s Danny Johnson bagged the equalising goal in the 88th minute to deny the defending champions all three points.

Rodgers was left questioning the concentration levels of his players and felt they were well off the pace at times in Lanarkshire.

“Not a very good performance. A game that we didn’t play well in – in particular the first-half,” Rodgers said.

“We scored a good goal and then didn’t take the chance with the penalty and also had a good goal ruled out from Filip Benkovic.

“But still at that stage I wasn’t so happy with our positioning and level of our game.

“In the second half our control of the game and positioning was better but we were still too loose.

“Then of course if you don’t take chances you are vulnerable at the end of the game.

“I don’t think they took it for granted, it was down to concentration.”
