Christie forced under the knife

16th April 2019, 18:02 by Tom Hill

Celtic have revealed that midfielder Ryan Christie is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering several facial injuries.

The 24-year-old collided with Aberdeen's Dom Ball during Sunday's 3-0 win at Hampden Park in the Scottish FA Cup.

Christie fell to the floor after a clash of heads and he had to be carried from the field, with Ball shown a yellow card for his part in the challenge.

Celtic are refusing to put a date on his return, with his participation in next month's Scottish Cup final against Hearts in serious doubt.

A club statement read: "Celtic Football Club can confirm that Ryan Christie has suffered multiple facial fractures following the incident during Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

"Ryan is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday of this week. We are not able at this stage to give any specific indication on a timescale for his return to action but, of course, everyone at Celtic wishes Ryan all the best for his full recovery.

"Ryan would also like to thank everyone sincerely for the many wishes of support he has received."
