Lennon ready to 'freshen up' Celtic

1st April 2019, 13:40 by Andy Schooler

Title-chasing Celtic boss Neil Lennon is ready to ring the changes for Wednesday's Premiership clash at St Mirren.

The Scottish champions are closing in on their eighth successive crown after beating arch rivals Rangers 2-1 on Sunday, a result which took them 13 points at the top with just seven games to play.

Next up are relegation-threatened St Mirren but after a strength-sapping weekend battle, one which saw defender Dedryck Boyata limp off injured, Lennon is ready to change things around.

Full-back Kieran Tierney is also out at present and Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic will need to be handled carefully given they have only just made their comebacks from injury.

However, Emilio Izaguirre, Jozo Simunovic, Filip Benkovic and Ryan Christie are all close to a return, while Timo Weah and Oliver Burke are pushing for places in the starting XI.

Lennon said: "We will have to maybe freshen things up a little bit.

"It looks that way. Obviously, we will look to Izaguirre, Simunovic and Benkovic is nearly fit as well.

"It's not bad strength in depth and you have the likes of Weah and Burke who will be fresh."

If results go their way, Celtic could win the title as early as Saturday when they host Livingston.
