Mulumbu: I'm not finished at Celtic

11th February 2019, 15:11 by Andy Schooler

Kilmarnock loanee Youssouf Mulumbu insists his Celtic career is not yet over.

The 32-year-old, who has played for West Brom and Norwich City, joined the Hoops from Kilmarnock in the summer but has found himself loaned back to his former club after failing to make an impact at Parkhead.

An untimely injury did not help and the midfielder saw Ryan Christie's form leave him out in the cold.

Getting matches under his belt back at Rugby Park seemed the sensible thing to do in January but the 32-year-old believes he can return to Celtic in the summer and fight for a place in the Scottish champions' team.

He told the Glasgow Herald: "I spoke with the manager at Celtic (Brendan Rodgers) and he said that, if I could get some games by being on loan, he'd let me go. We are on good terms.

"I came to Kilmarnock with confidence and a little bit of disappointment. I need to show I'm a good player and that’s what I intend to do.

"Do I regret the move? No, no, no. It's a great club and my team-mates were amazing with me. When I had the chance to play, I was injured and, like I said, Ryan took the spot and we were in the same situation."

He added: "I'm here for six months to help Kilmarnock and if I do everything right and if we achieve something very good, I know I’ll be back at Celtic in the summer and everything can change from there.

"In my head, it's not over at Celtic. If you speak with Brendan and the lads, they know I want to go back and do great things for them."

Kilmarnock have enjoyed an impressive campaign and they currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Celtic but right in the mix for a European spot.
